In this podcast, Mike Costa, senior advisor at Impact Advisors, a Naperville, Ill.-based health IT consulting firm, talks with Healthcare Informatics Associate Editor Gabriel Perna about the ICD-10 transition. Over the past year, the transition to ICD-10 has remained a prominent issue in the health policy landscape, affecting providers, payers, and state and federal agencies alike. Earlier this year, the CMS proposed a one-year delay to its original ICD-10 compliance date, from Oct. 1, 2013 to Oct. 1, 2014.

With the uncertainty surrounding ICD-10 hanging over head, those on the provider side are still left what they should be doing now and what their relationship with payers should be. Costa talks about these issues, as well as why he thinks providers are resisting so adamantly against the ICD-10 transition. He says from the effort and cost of ICD-10 doesn’t outweigh the rewards in providers’ eyes, and that’s why they are fighting back against it.
