Louisiana Clinical Data Research Network Funded by PCORI
The Louisiana Clinical Data Research Network (LACDRN) will receive funding by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to develop a clinical data research network.
The network will be a part of PCORI’s national-wide patient-centered national clinical research network, PCORnet, aimed to boost the efficiency of health research. It will be the 29th network to be approved by PCORI to form PCORnet.
LACDRN was formed by the Louisiana Public Health Institute (LPHI), Pennington Biomedical Research Center, and Tulane University. The Louisiana network will cost $6.9 million and the infrastructure will take 18 months to complete. The network will look to advance research on diabetes and obesity, along with multiple comorbodities, sickle cell disease, and rare cancers.
“We are thrilled to receive this PCORI award,” stated Anjum Khurshid, M.D., principal investigator and director of Health Systems at LPHI. “The LACDRN is a unique collaboration between a top-level research center (Pennington Biomedical), an academic institution of great repute (Tulane) and an established, community-based public health institute (LPHI). The infrastructure investments in IT in this region and the strong relationships with our community partners provide an unprecedented opportunity to involve patients, clinicians and researchers in meaningful clinical research.”
In December, PCORI approved $93.5 million to support PCORnet. It also said it would fund 11 Clinical Data Research Networks (CDRNs), partnerships among health clinics, hospitals, and other health systems with the ability to collect and use information from multiple data sources such as electronic health records (EHRs)
