What Might You Like to Ask David Muntz… or Drex DeFord…? or Larry Holly…? or…?

As I’ve been writing in reported articles and in blogs, I see the current era in healthcare and healthcare IT as being a time of great ferment and accelerated change. And during such a time, it’s incredibly important for all of us to spend time touching base with one another, to make sure we understand all the things going on right now. And though important conversations took place at this year's HIMSS Conference, we all know how frenetic HIMSS can be. At the HCI Executive Summit in May, our attendees will be able to participate in broad-ranging, yet also granular, discussions, in an intimate setting. And what if you have questions of our Summit speakers that are occurring to you now? Well, here's your chance...

As I’ve been writing in reported articles and in blogs, I see the current era in healthcare and healthcare IT as being a time of great ferment and accelerated change. And during such a time, it’s incredibly important for all of us to spend time touching base with one another, to make sure we understand all the things going on right now. Indeed, isn’t that part of the point of the annual HIMSS Conference? I certainly saw that play out at HIMSS12, held a couple of weeks ago in Las Vegas.

Yet though undoubtedly thousands of important touching base-type conversations took place at HIMSS, we all know how frenetic things can be at the HIMSS Conference—this year’s conference was a case in point, with the proposed rule for Stage 2 of meaningful use dropping right in the middle of the conference. It made for an exciting, but also truly manic, time!

It’s with that kind of landscape in mind that we at Healthcare Informatics produced our first Healthcare Informatics Executive Summit last year, at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. It was a wonderful success, with industry leaders having the opportunity to meet with each other in an intimate setting and engage in broad-ranging, often quite granular, discussions. Farzad Mostashari, M.D. and Carolyn Clancy, M.D., were our opening and closing keynote speakers, and we received wonderful feedback from participants, who found it a stimulating and enlightening experience.

This year, we’re recreating the same kind of ambience in our second Executive Summit, to be held at the Marriott Orlando World Center hotel in Orlando, Florida. And we’ve got a top-shelf lineup of speakers once again, headed up by opening and closing keynote speakers David Muntz, now principal deputy at ONC, and Drex DeFord, the Seattle Children’s Hospital CIO who in January became board chair at CHIME. Muntz and DeFord will be joined by a wonderful range of speakers and panelists, including James L. “Larry” Holly, the co-founder and CEO of Southeast Texas Medical Associates in Beaumont, Texas, and an award-winning pioneer for his leadership in developing the patient-centered medical home; Jeffrey Rose, M.D., the vice president, clinical excellence, informatics, at the St. Louis-based Ascension Health system; Tina Buop, CIO at Muir Medical Group IPA, in Northern California; Ferdinand Velasco, M.D., vice president and CMIO at the Arlington, Texas-based Texas health Resources; and numerous others.

Given this starry lineup, I’m thinking you may well already have questions for our speakers. Would you like to post them so that we can get a dialogue going, even before the Summit begins? Here’s your chance!

Please check out our lineup of speakers for our Executive Summit, and then use the “comment” function here, to post your question(s). I’ll make sure your questions are posed to our speakers. You can pose a question to a specific speaker or more generally. I guarantee your question will get asked! I look forward to your comments to this blog, and I sincerely hope you’ll consider joining us in person in Orlando as well—I’m certain it will be a terrific experience for all those involved.
