The American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) is creating what it calls the first regional membership opportunity for informatics professionals and students when it launches a Mid-Atlantic Chapter in April.

The inaugural chapter event will be held on Friday, April 26 at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia 6th Annual Healthcare Informatics Symposium. The chapter was approved by the AMIA board of directors on March 19.

“Our annual meetings are top notch-venues for learning and networking, but there is an absolute need to connect people more frequently around collaboration, education, career opportunities and programming that are regional and local,” said Kevin Fickenscher, M.D., president and CEO of AMIA, in a prepared statement.

Dan Foltz, vice president of healthcare & life sciences at Anexinet, is the organizing committee chair for the new AMIA Mid-Atlantic chapter. “
