HIMSS Analytics, the research arm of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), has recognized 44 of the Columbia-based University of Missouri’s (MU Health Care) ambulatory clinics with its Stage 7 Ambulatory Award.

The award represents the University of Missouri’s ambulatory clinics attainment of the highest level on the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM), which is used to track EMR progress at hospitals and health systems. Developed in 2011, the EMR Ambulatory Adoption Model provides a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for ambulatory facilities owned by hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Database. Stage 7 represents the highest level of EMR adoption and indicates a health system’s advanced electronic patient record environment.

Through the second fiscal quarter of 2013, only 1.16 percent of the more than 19,085 U.S. ambulatory clinics in the HIMSS Analytics database, have received the Stage 7 Ambulatory Award.

“We’re proud to be one of the very few health systems in the United States to achieve HIMSS Stage 7 recognition for adoption of electronic medical records in both hospital and clinic settings,”  Mitch Wasden, CEO and COO of MU Health Care, said in a statement. “MU Health Care has made a commitment to be a national leader in the adoption of health information technology, and this award is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our health professionals and technology experts in making that goal a reality.”

The University of Missouri’s ambulatory clinics will be recognized at the 2014 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition on Feb. 24-26, 2014, in Orlando, Fla.
