HIMSS Analytics, the research arm of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), has announced that the Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai Health System has received the Stage 7 recognition.

The award represents attainment of the highest level on the Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model (EMRAM), which is used to track EMR progress at hospitals and health systems. HIMSS Analytics developed the EMR Adoption Model in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Database.

There are eight stages (0-7) that measure a hospital’s implementation and utilization of information technology applications. The final stage, Stage 7, represents an advanced patient record environment. During the fourth quarter of 2013, 2.9 percent, of the more than 5,400 U.S. hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Database, received the HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 Award.

Cedars-Sinai Health System, which includes an 886-bed academic medical center, research institutes, a medical group and an independent physician association, and medical residency and fellowship training programs, is an independent, private, not-for-profit organization. “As an organization always focused on providing the highest quality care for our patients, electronic health records and information technology are an increasingly important tool for Cedars-Sinai’s patients, physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals,” Thomas M. Priselac, president and CEO of Cedars-Sinai Health System, said in a statement. “This award recognizes the achievements of everyone at Cedars-Sinai in using information technology to further enhance the care we provide to each patient.”
