Baptist Health Corbin, a Baptist Health System hospital based in Kentucky, has launched tele-ICU clinical services in its organization with the aim to provide more advanced technology as well as 24/7 intensivist oversight of the hospital's ICU patients.
According to Baptist Health Corbin officials, “being able to optimize the delivery of critical care and treat even the most acute patients locally was of significant importance.” The hospital is working with St. Louis-based telehealth solutions provider Advanced ICU Care, who is providing intensivist-led clinical teams so that the medical center's onsite intensivist and ICU staff can now benefit from additional collaboration and support as they work together to provide the highest level of care to ICU patients.
What’s more, officials say that a secure data stream of patient information and two-way audio-video capabilities enable Advanced ICU Care's remote care teams of intensivists, advanced practice providers, and nurses to actively engage in patient care. The constant monitoring and joint coordination between providers and the hospital's staff aims to ensure 24/7 care by critical care specialists of the facility's most critical population.
Baptist Health Corbin is part of Baptist Health System based out of Louisville, Ky., and is the first of its eight main hospitals to launch a tele-ICU offering with Advanced ICU Care. The health system had explored the value proposition of remote intensivist care and after careful consideration, chose to partner with Advanced ICU Care rather than build its own solution. Baptist Health Corbin was then selected as the first hospital in the health system to launch tele-ICU clinical services in partnership with Advanced ICU Care, officials note. Advanced ICU Care currently provides care to more than 65 hospitals in 24 states on a 24/7/365 basis.
