This two-part podcast interview with the CEO of the National eHealth Collaborative, Kate Berry, explores the rising prominence of patient engagement in healthcare. In part 1, Berry and HCI Associate Editor Gabriel Perna discuss why providers and other healthcare entities are suddenly paying attention to patient engagement, and why deploying it effectively remains a mystery to many. NeHC recently released a survey that stated while 53 percent of its members rank patient engagement as a high priority, only eight percent have clearly defined strategies for patient engagement.
In addition, Berry talks about NeHC’s recent Consumer Consortium on eHealth Engagement Summit, which took place in Washington D.C., where various stakeholders in healthcare including government officials, representatives from vendors, providers, and other non-profits, met to discuss the critical issues regarding patient engagement. Kate talks about some of the outcomes NeHC and its partners got from this summit, and why it was conceived in the first place.
