This is part two of a two-part podcast interview with Dave deBronkart, also known as e-Patient Dave, as he continues his discussion with Associate Editor Gabriel Perna about the future opportunities as well as the past and current challenges of patient engagement. In part one, he discussed the challenges of the patient engagement movement, where he sees it headed in 2013, and he explains the history and evolution of the Blue Button initiative.
In part two, deBronkart talks about where he has seen patient engagement in action, using a couple of personal examples to show how it can save a patient from harm. He also talks about how patient engagement frameworks, like the one from the National eHealth Collaborative, can potentially help innovators look for point solutions and better understand the issues at hand. However, he says he still hasn’t seen a framework for patient engagement “that nails the issue from beginning to end.”
