The North Kansas City-based EHR vendor, Cerner, has acquired PureWellness, a Burlington, V.T.-based provider of a population health management platform, the company announced this week. The deal is for an undisclosed amount and will be official in March.

Cerner is aiming to use PureWellness’ platform to support population management, accountable care, managed care, for various providers and payers, the company says. PureWellness’ health and wellness platform, which will be rebranded as Cerner Wellness, allows various provider and payer groups to manage their wellness initiatives within the organization. The wellness platform, which Cerner says has four million users,  can be used on mobile devices on top of its normal platform.

PureWellness has been in this market since 2001 and was co-founded by Ron Keen and Ken Kaufman. “Cerner’s dedication to improving the health and wellness of populations combined with PureWellness’ robust wellness solutions will further enable organizations to enhance their population health efforts to deliver better outcomes,” Kaufman said in a statement.
