And just yesterday, we looked at the most popular stories this year on Twitter.
Today, we take a look at the 10 stories that generated the most clicks in 2016. It’s always fascinating to see what our readers prioritize, and while the data below doesn’t tell the entire story, it gives us a good idea on what topics/angles hit home more than others. Healthcare Informatics parsed through the Google Analytics to come up with the 10 most-clicked stories of 2016:
1) The 2016 Healthcare Informatics 100 Every year Healthcare Informatics ranks the 100 vendors with the highest revenues derived from healthcare IT products and services earned in the U.S. based on revenue information from the previous year. New to the 100 as of 2016, was a commitment to recognizing the expert thought leaders who are propelling their companies to the top of the market. Many of The Healthcare Informatics 100 company listings featured videos of vendor executives answering questions about the most significant trends that are currently impacting the health IT landscape. Vendors were also asked to estimate the percentage of revenue earned in all of their product segments.
2) What Impact will Trump’s Victory Have on Value-Based Healthcare? Healthcare Informatics spoke with health IT industry associations and policy leaders on the morning after the election to get a sense of how the industry is assessing the impact of Trump’s victory on healthcare policy and initiatives.

4) CMS Announces Long-Awaited MACRA Proposed Rule; Program Includes MU Makeover for MDs CMS officials in April announced their initial plan to replace the meaningful use program for Medicare-participating physicians with a new program under the MIPS program, called Advancing Care Information.
5) MACRA Final Rule Released The Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) finalized in October the highly-anticipated Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) Final Rule, in which eligible Medicare physicians will be paid for the quality of care they deliver, via the government’s Quality Payment Program, which replaces the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) for physician reimbursement.
6) MedStar Health Hacked, EHR Down, FBI Investigating On March 28, The Washington Post broke the story that a virus had infected the clinical information system of the 10-hospital, Columbia, Md.-based MedStar Health integrated health system, forcing the system’s leaders to shut down their electronic health record (EHR) and e-mail system, and marking a new watershed moment in the recent history of hacking-based EHR and clinical information system shutdowns in U.S. hospitals.
7) Reports: Andrew Bremberg will Lead Trump’s HHS Transition Team It was announced on Nov. 11 that the transition team for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) under President-elect Donald Trump will be led by Andrew Bremberg, who most recently served as policy director for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s presidential campaign, and who previously worked at the federal healthcare agency under President George W. Bush administration.
8) The 2016 Healthcare Informatics Innovator Awards: First-Place Winning Team—UT Southwestern Medical Center The Dallas-based UT Southwestern Medical Center’s Ambulatory Quality Outcomes Project is improving processes and outcomes across 40 medical specialties, and moving the organization forward on quality in a big way—big enough to earn first-place status in Healthcare Informatics’ 2016 Innovator Awards program.
9) Trump Taps Tom Price, Seema Verma to Head HHS, CMS The President-elect formed his “dream team” to repeal the Affordable Care Act with two experienced healthcare policy candidates. But questions remain about what impact the new Administration will have on health IT’s future.
