On Wednesday, March 19, the American Hospital Association (AHA) and Health-ISAC released a joint bulletin sharing information about a potential terror attack against U.S. hospitals. In an update to the bulletin, the organizations stated that on March 26, the FBI, after an investigation, had not found a credible threat.
The statement furthermore advised that the FBI would alert the health sector immediately through the AHA, Health-ISAC, and other channels if they identified credible threat information.
The observed threat was a social media post on X by a user named AXactual at American Kinetix - a global operational services support firm. That company's website says its leadership comprises former CIA and Joint Special Operations Command veterans, reported Healthcare Info Security's Marianne Kolbasuk McGee.
The social media post warned that "ISIS-K is actively planning coordinated, multi-city terrorist attacks on U.S. hospitals in the coming weeks," and that "All Level One trauma centers in mid-tier cities should review security, identify pre-attack reconnaissance, and implement emergency response measures now."
"We appreciate the FBI's swift response and collaboration with Health-ISAC and AHA on their assessment of this threat," Errol Weiss, CSO at Health-ISAC, said in a statement obtained by Information Security Media Group.
