Survey: Advanced Threat Detection Tops Healthcare Leaders’ Cybersecurity Wish List
Healthcare organizations view advanced threat detection tools as their most valuable resource for strengthening defenses. A suite of such products ranks highest on leaders’ collective wish list, according to a new report by Endeavor Business Intelligence, a sister organization of Healthcare Innovation under the umbrella of EndeavorB2B.
EBI researchers surveyed readers of Healthcare Innovation as well as fellow EndeavorB2B brands Healthcare Purchasing News and Medical Laboratory Observer in late August and early September about their responses to cybersecurity threats and plans to invest in technology and training. Among respondents, nearly two-thirds said protecting patient data is one of two top priorities, with regulatory compliance ranking second at 51 percent.
On the flip side, incident response planning was cited as a top priority by a mere 4 percent of respondents. Also scoring low—not surprisingly, given the critical nature of protection healthcare operations and data from hackers—is the number of organizations that fully outsource their cybersecurity operations to outside providers. Only 7 percent of respondents said they do that while 31 percent say they have a fully in-house team.
“Hybrid staffing models that combine in-house and outsourced expertise are the most common approach, though some organizations still operate without dedicated cybersecurity staff, leaving potential gaps in coverage,” the EBI team wrote.
