The Top 5 in May: HCI100, Interesting Health IT Vendors

Without a doubt, the Healthcare Informatics 100, our compilation of the top health IT companies based on HIT revenues from the most recent fiscal year, was the hottest news item in the month of May. It was everywhere; from the actual list itself to an accompanying piece on the most interesting health IT vendors. Look for even more on the HCI 100 in our upcoming issue.

Without a doubt, the Healthcare Informatics 100, our compilation of the top health IT companies based on HIT revenues from the most recent fiscal year, was the hottest news item in the month of May. It was everywhere; from the actual list itself to an accompanying piece on the most interesting health IT vendors. Look for even more on the HCI 100 in our upcoming issue. There was also a lot of interest in what was going on at Allscripts, the Chicago-based EHR vendor, which recently dealt with some turnover on its Board of Director level.

Here is the complete listing of the top five online stories from the month:

1)  The 2012 Healthcare Informatics 100 Ranking

The HCI100 has been has been compiled by Healthcare Informatics for more than 20 years and has served the industry as a unique information resource and financial overview of vendors active in the healthcare IT market. This year, McKesson Technology Solutions (Alpharetta, Ga.) was the top ranked company, marking the fifth year in a row that the diversified healthcare IT software solutions vendor has sat atop the list. Ranking second was Round Rock, Texas-based Dell, a provider of IT outsourcing, revenue cycle services, and data centers to the healthcare industry. Rounding out the top five, untouched from last year’s list, are CareFusion (San Diego, Calif.), Philips Healthcare (Andover, Mass.), and Cerner Corp. (Kansas City, Mo.).

2)  BREAKING: The 2012 Healthcare Informatics 100 is Released

3)  2012’s Most Interesting Health IT Vendors

This blog from HCI Senior Editor Jennifer Prestigiacomo ran alongside the release of the HCI 100. It’s a brief look at some of the year’s Most Interesting Vendors from the industry. These are vendors we have taken note of this past year and are ones to watch in the future. The vendors looked at in this piece are Accent on Integration (AOI), ConsultADoctor, DiagnosisOne, Greenway Medical, iBlueButton (Humetrix), iNexx (Medicity), MedeAnalytics, Oracle, and Orion Health. Greenway, MedeAnalytics, and Orion will be looked at more in-depth in the upcoming issue of HCI.
