LIVE FROM RSNA: Attendance Up 6 Percent Over 2013, But Still Low Compared to Three Years Ago
As the Radiological Society of North America began to celebrate its 100th birthday, RSNA executives and elected leaders could take some satisfaction in the fact that attendance had rebounded a bit from the past couple of years, as attendees arrived at Chicago’s vast McCormick Place Convention Center on Sunday, November 30.
As of Saturday, November 29 (still the most recent numbers available, as of 9 AM local time on Monday morning, December 1), attendance was recorded at 52,332 total attendees, versus 49,400 in 2013. That represented an increase of 6 percent. Still, everything is relative, particularly when it comes to conference attendance numbers. While the final numbers for 2013 were calculated at 49,400, and the final figure for 2012 was calculated at 48,925, back in 2011, total attendance came to 58,000, meaning that Saturday’s 52,000-plus figure was still nearly 6,000 lower than back in 2011.
Nevertheless, as the 100th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America, still the largest annual medical meeting in the world, convened, there was much to discuss, in scientific and clinical sessions, in other meetings, and on the exhibit hall floor. Speaking of which, this year, exhibitor participation is more or less holding steady, with just a slight dip, as 657 vendors are exhibiting, compared to 665 in 2013.
