HHS Contracts Out Healthcare Data Bank Operations

The U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA),a division of the U.S. Health and Human Services Department (HHS), has awarded a contract worth $78.5 million to SRA International, a Fairfax, Va.-based provider of data IT consulting, to operate a federal healthcare data bank.

The U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA),a division of the U.S. Health and Human Services Department (HHS), has awarded a contract worth $78.5 million to SRA International, a Fairfax, Va.-based provider of data IT consulting, to operate a federal healthcare data bank.

The contract, named National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) and the Healthcare Integrity and Protection Data Bank (HIPDB) Fifth Generation, was aimed at finding a company to operate the federal healthcare data bank. Contracted services include full life-cycle system and software development, call center operations, document processing, security, business process modeling, enterprise content management, data analytics, business continuity planning, policy support, event planning, and operations and maintenance. 

The data bank includes confidential information that is aimed to improve health care quality, protect the public, and reduce health care fraud and abuse in the U.S.
