AHIMA plans on creating the AHIMA Grace Award: In Recognition of Excellence in Health Information Management to honor healthcare delivery organizations that demonstrate effective and innovative approaches in using health information to deliver high quality healthcare. The inaugural award will be presented at the 84thAHIMA Annual Convention & Exhibit in Chicago Sept. 29-Oct. 4.

“We look forward to recognizing and sharing the best practices of organizations that are living AHIMA’s vision of quality healthcare through quality information,” AHIMA CEO Lynne Thomas Gordon, said in a statement. “This award will honor the best of the best of organizations that recognize the vital role health information plays in the continuum of care.”

Organizations will be evaluated on how they contribute to a patient-centered model of care, advance electronic health records, and integrate HIM throughout the workplace. A panel representing health care delivery organizations, health information professionals, and HIM associations including AHIMA, will make a decision on the winner.
