The Chicago-based Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) recently introduced a new initiative that will bring together C-suite executives in an effort to transform the industry using IT and management systems. The Healthcare Transformation Project will hold an “interactive and innovative forum, with peer-to-peer discussion and debate,” held from Nov. 14-16, at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

With this project, HIMSS is aiming to build a team of committed community of healthcare provider senior leaders dedicated to positively transforming the quality, safety, cost-effectiveness, and access to care at the local level. Along with the forum, it will offer year-round engagement with networking, community, events and research. Also, members of the community will meet through virtual events and at HIMSS13 in New Orleans from March 3-7, 2013.

“Thanks to our research with C-suite leaders, we know they look for programs with actionable knowledgeable and tangible deliverables they can apply to their own healthcare settings,” H. Stephen Lieber, HIMSS president and CEO, said in a statement. “Healthcare Transformation Project provides those benefits by bringing together like-minded executives to learn more about best practices, develop collaborations to enhance their organizations and communities, and most importantly, commit to action.”

At the November event, participants will hear from and work with Ken Jennings, Ph.D., ThirdRiver Partners, LLC, during a Meaningful Discussions Workshop with peer conversation and action plan development. Jennings is a respected healthcare strategist and futurist and author of two books, The Greater Goal and Changing Health Care. Also speaking will be Donna Brazile, political strategist and commentator, and vice chair of voter registration and participation for the Democratic National Committee and Patrick J. Buchanan,  columnist, author, and political commentator
