Former Secretary of State, Senator, and First Lady, Hillary Clinton will be the keynote speaker at the annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference in 2014, following in the footsteps of her husband, Bill Clinton, who was the speaker last year.

HIMSS announced Clinton’s appearance at their annual conference through social media channels this morning. Over the course of the week, the industry association gave hints on the speaker’s identity through Twitter, finally revealing that 67th Secretary of State would be giving a keynote on Feb. 26, 2014 at HIMSS14 in Orlando.

Clinton’s main tie to the industry is her appeal for universal healthcare as First Lady. The HIMSS website talks about her efforts to “improve the adoption and foster care systems, reduce teen pregnancy, and establish both the Children's Health Insurance Program and Early Head Start.”

Her husband, former President Bill Clinton spoke at HIMSS13 in New Orleans. He told attendees about the responsibility of healthcare IT professionals in the U.S. to help lead the transformation of our healthcare system into one that is far more transparent, accountable, and focused on dramatically improving the health status of our country’s citizens.
