Boston-based health system, Partners Healthcare will be using an enterprise platform from InterSystems, a Cambridge, Mass.-based software provider for interoperability that will consolidate its financial and clinical systems onto one electronic health record (EHR) platform.

The push for interoperability is part of the organization’s overall strategy. In July 2012, Partners said it would implement an integrated health information system at all institutions across the Partners network by 2017.

The interoperability enterprise platform from InterSystems will replace several existing integration engines in place currently. It will aim to integrate clinical and administrative information between third-party systems and the enterprise EHR, to ultimately improve coordination of care, reduce unnecessary testing, and support quality and cost imperatives.

“Partners is redesigning care delivery to improve the health of our patients while improving the affordability of care.  Achieving these goals requires a level of coordination and standardization across Partners that cannot be supported by a ‘patchwork quilt’ of disparate information systems,” Steven Flammini, CTO, Partners HealthCare, said in a statement.

John Pappas, associate director of Clinical Systems Integration at Partners HealthCare, added that integrating revenue cycle and clinical applications would benefit both patients and care providers.
