Acquisition expands EHR vendor's patient engagement offerings

CPSI (NASDAQ: CPSI), a publicly traded company that provides technology solutions to community healthcare organizations, has reached an agreement to acquire Get Real Health, a developer of patient engagement and empowerment solutions, for $11 million.

Based in Rockville, Md., Get Real Health delivers solutions to government and private organizations in Europe, Canada, Australia and the United States. The company was chosen as one of Healthcare Innovation’s Up and Comer companies for 2014

Founded in 1979, Mobile, Ala.-based CPSI is the parent of three companies – Evident, LLC, American HealthTech Inc. and TruBridge LLC. Evident provides EHR solutions for community hospitals and their affiliated clinics. American HealthTech provides EHR solutions and services for post-acute care facilities. TruBridge focuses on providing business, consulting and managed IT services, along with its RCM solution for all care settings.

CPSI said it would offer its customers three patient engagement and empowerment solutions that are offered by Get Real Health:

• Ellie addresses the entire chronic care management process, end-to-end, by investing patients in their own care and promoting effective communication and interaction with their care managers;

• Instant PHR is a patient portal built to promote more efficient collaboration between the individual and their healthcare provider; and

• CHBase combines clinical data and personal health data to give a complete view of a patient’s health story.

In addition, earlier this month, Get Real Health launched its latest product, Lydia, which was identified by Microsoft as a destination for HealthVault users to transition their existing data after the pending retirement of HealthVault. Using Lydia, people can organize, store, and share their health information with family and healthcare providers. CPSI said its acute and ambulatory customers will be able to use InstantPHR and CHBase to engage their patients in a much deeper way than traditional patient portals. The company’s Ellie app will allow CPSI customers to improve their patients’ health outcomes while strengthening their own bottom lines.

“The demographics and population make-up of the communities we serve support the growing demand for strategies and tools to address the ongoing management of chronic care conditions, which are prevalent in these areas,” said Boyd Douglas, president and CEO of CPSI, in a prepared statement. “Helping our customers secure the future of community healthcare is what we focus on each and every day. By acquiring Get Real Health, we can continue this effort as providers evolve to a value-based care delivery model.”
