The two companies have agreed to become go-to-market partners in healthcare, creating an identity security and access management alliance

In a move that may shake up the identity management space in healthcare, SailPoint has acquired Imprivata's identity governance and administration (IGA) business. SailPoint said it would seek to seamlessly unify its identity security solution with Imprivata's Enterprise Access Management solution.

SailPoint plans to empower healthcare organizations to modernize their identity security platforms through this acquisition. According to the December 16 press release, both companies have agreed to become go-to-market partners in healthcare, creating an identity security and access management alliance that will benefit healthcare organizations worldwide.

"The partnership between SailPoint and Imprivata offers numerous benefits, including an integrated identity and access management solution that will enhance security for sensitive patient data, and reduces administrative burdens through automated user provisioning enabling healthcare professionals to focus more on patient care," the SailPoint team commented to Healthcare Innovation.

"Through this partnership, SailPoint will promote Imprivata as its exclusive enterprise access management solutions partner in healthcare, and likewise, Imprivata will promote SailPoint as its exclusive identity security partner in healthcare. Both parties will develop high-fidelity technical integrations between Imprivata Enterprise Access Management (EAM) and SailPoint Identity Security Cloud," the brief noted.

SailPoint indicated wanting to support existing Imprivata customers by helping them migrate to Identity Security Cloud. For those customers wishing to remain on Imprivata's IGA platform, SailPoint is committing to provide limited support through 2027.

"This partnership is a pivotal shift in the healthcare identity security industry. By partnering, we'll unite our identity security solution with Imprivata Enterprise Access Management seamlessly, giving our joint healthcare customers a powerful, unified, and comprehensive approach to managing and securing their digital identities," SailPoint's president, Matt Mills, said in a statement.

"Transitioning the Imprivata IGA business to SailPoint allows Imprivata to continue to focus on delivering access management, mobile, and privileged access security solutions that deliver the most value possible to our customers," Fran Rosch, CEO of Imprivata, shared in a statement.

The partnership was made effective on December 13.
