Madison Memorial Hospital Improves Communications Health

Jan. 6, 2010

PHOENIX, Arizona – January 5, 2010 – Mitel® today announced that Madison Memorial Hospital, a healthcare facility serving five counties in eastern Idaho, has selected a Mitel unified communications software solution to increase employee accessibility, improve flexibility, drive cost savings, and ensure redundancy.

Located in Rexburg, Idaho, Madison Memorial Hospital has a very progressive, yet caring outlook when it comes to patient care. That outlook is supported throughout the hospital with state-of-the-art facilities and progressive education, processes, and technology. The communications system plays a significant role in delivering superior services to patients and the existing outdated PBX simply wasn’t delivering the advanced business applications needed to support Madison Memorial’s future expansion.

Working with Mitel specialistPARTNER, Mountain West Telecom, Madison Memorial selected the Mitel Communications Director software to deliver seamless communications during years of scheduled construction and expansion into different campuses, while also running a hospital where downtime in communications is simply not an option.

“Redundancy during the construction was a very important part of our decision to go with Mitel,” says Clyde Stucki, director of engineering at Madison Memorial Hospital. “We looked at other vendors but Mitel was the obvious choice because not only did their solution offer total redundancy but also significant cost savings and the flexibility we needed.”

Throughout the construction stage, Madison Memorial’s 600 employees needed to be able to work out of other temporary locations. To establish secure communications at temporary remote sites Madison Memorial selected the Mitel Teleworker Solution enabling employees to work from anywhere with the same ease and connectivity as though they were back at their office.

Madison Memorial employees are typically on the move but it is essential they can be reached when they are needed. With Mitel Unified Communicator® Mobile, employees’ mobile device of choice becomes a full-featured extension of the corporate network ensuring calls are answered no matter if they are in the hospital or offsite. Furthermore, with the enhanced Mitel Dynamic Extension feature, employees are able to twin multiple devices at one time including home phone, another vendor phone, or an analog phone.

To enhance staff communication, Madison deployed Mitel Audio and Web Conferencing (AWC), allowing for collaboration through video and desktop sharing without having to pay expensive monthly hosted audio and web conferencing fees. “We are excited about exploring the new file sharing and whiteboard capabilities of AWC,” says Stucki. “It’s great being able to schedule collaboration sessions on the fly.”
