East Orange General Hospital to Implement GE’s Centricity Enterprise

Feb. 17, 2010

BARRINGTON, Ill. – Feb 16, 2010 – GE Healthcare IT, a global leader in information technology and the solutions required to maximize its efficacy, announced East Orange General Hospital, in East Orange, NJ, as the latest to purchase the company’s hospital-based electronic medical record (EMR) offering in an effort to reduce cost and enhance patient care.

The recently signed agreement brings the full capability of the Centricity® Enterprise, including a CCHIT-certified inpatient EMR as well as administrative, departmental and revenue cycle solutions, to the 211-bed facility and its outpatient departments.  The products will be implemented under GE’s Digital Day One™ offering for rapid implementation. The solution includes pre-configured clinical templates for best practices in clinical workflows, developed in collaboration with leading hospitals across the country.

Centricity Enterprise will be delivered remotely from GE’s data center under an Applications Service Provider (ASP) model that provides the benefits of a predictable cost for IT while minimizing capital investments and internal resources.  Through the plan, East Orange General Hospital will begin the implementation of GE’s integrated line of Centricity solutions immediately, as they work with GE to achieve “meaningful use,” with the goal of obtaining federal stimulus funds that are available to hospitals and physician offices in 2011.

“We are extremely excited about our new partnership with East Orange General Hospital and, in fact, we look to them as a trusted partner,” said Laurent Rotival, vice president and general manager of GE Healthcare IT. “By aligning our IT solutions to their specific situation, we’ve been able to remove two of the most common obstacles to EMR adoption in community hospitals; a high up-front cost and uncertainty around choosing a solution that will be certified, a requirement for meeting the eventual definition of meaningful use. In essence, we’ve told them we’ll take care of that so they can continue focusing on improved patient care using their new EMR tools.”

The solution aligns with GE’s healthymagination vision for changing healthcare delivery by developing products that can reduce cost while increasing access and quality of care.

“The ideals and the change GE is working toward through its healthymagination initiative are simply the right fit for the Hospital,” said Kevin Slavin, President of East Orange General Hospital. “We conducted a thorough evaluation of many of the industry’s leading solutions and, in the end, GE’s product combined with the passion and partnership we saw made it the clear choice for advancing patient care.  We’ve begun a relationship with GE that we will benefit from for years to come.”
