Malvern, Pa., August 9, 2010 – Today, Siemens Healthcare announced the three ‘most inspired’ participants in its 2010 Inspired Healthcare Outcomes Challenge, which invited healthcare providers to share the exceptional outcomes achieved or best practices implemented through the use of Siemens health information technology. Submissions were evaluated by experts from the Siemens Consultant Alliance Program (CAP): consulting firms comprising industry leaders and trusted advisors to healthcare providers.
The 415-bed, three hospital Susquehanna Health in Williamsport, PA was honored for its use of Siemens Soarian Financials revenue cycle management health IT system in conjunction with Siemens HDX Electronic Remittance and Lockbox Payment Posting services to reduce its accounts receivable days from 56.8 in 2004 to 40.6 by 2010, resulting in approximately $13 million in additional net revenue collected by the provider. Susquehanna was able to shift staff members that formerly held cash posting positions into more critical roles to help the health system achieve its overall financial goals, while also rescaling the overall size of its business office, yielding $300,000 in savings per year.
Recognition also went to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, VA, which leveraged nursing documentation and Soarian Clinicals’ embedded analytics capabilities to help support its efforts to reduce MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus)-related infections. Soarian Clinicals helped the organization reduce the general number of MRSA Healthcare-associated infections by 43 percent when compared to the same time period in 2009. And as recently as March 2010, the 500-bed hospital reported zero MRSA healthcare-associated infections for the entire facility.
MedCentral Health System, with hospitals in Mansfield and Shelby, OH, rounded out this year’s ‘most inspired’ by using Soarian Clinicals to help support its efforts to decrease the rate of inpatient falls – which represent one of the greatest medical liability challenges facing healthcare providers today – by demonstrating continuous improvement with an overall reduction of 76 percent over several months. To achieve this success, the 351-bed hospital used Soarian Clinicals functionality and Healthcare Process Management to assess and document a patients risk for falls; and then order appropriate interventions, cue safety actions, link to policies and procedures, communicate within departments, and abstract data for auditing purposes.
The ‘most inspired’ customers were unveiled at INNOVATIONS ‘10 for Healthcare IT in Orlando, FL, a symposium where Siemens health information technology customers can share ideas and expand their knowledge around invaluable tools and innovative strategies that will help them improve efficiencies and stay ahead of the technological curve.
