Two Wisconsin health plans select McKesson

Dec. 13, 2011

NEWTON, Mass., December 8, 2011 — Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin (GHC-SCW) and Group Health Cooperative of Eau Claire (GHC-Eau Claire) have selected clinical and financial intelligence solutions from McKesson to uncover and quickly act on opportunities for improving the quality and efficiency of care. Both organizations are long-term McKesson customers and will add McKesson Analytics Advisor to their existing portfolio of McKesson solutions to identify and manage risk across the continuum of medical and pharmacy utilization, network use and provider performance.

“Market momentum is rapidly building for McKesson Analytics Advisor because it helps payers and providers work together to answer healthcare’s most pressing question: how do we move confidently down the road to more accountable care,” said James Evans, vice president, Payment Management, McKesson Health Solutions. “The Group Health Cooperative organizations are well known for both their innovation and their relentless pursuit of quality, and McKesson Analytics Advisor will help them pinpoint and prioritize the steps along the way.”

Created from the provider point of view, McKesson Analytics Advisor allows health insurers to turn their utilization, network, member and claim level data into powerful, actionable intelligence. Sharing this intelligence with healthcare providers helps them quickly see how to more effectively address their patients’ chronic conditions and gaps in care, improving care delivery. To increase physician buy-in, McKesson Analytics Advisor incorporates physician input and risk adjustment methodologies for strong data credibility. In turn, data on overall plan performance, utilization and provider metrics offers key business-level analysis for health insurers. Enhanced payer-provider communication and collaboration based on transparent, real-time and reliable data supports more accountable care by effectively balancing healthcare quality and efficiency.

Four health plans have signed agreements to use McKesson Analytics Advisor in the last three months. Key reasons include the hosted solution’s rapid implementation timeframe, prospective approach to analytics, and flexible, intuitive dashboard-style reporting. Portals create transparency around clinically and financially relevant performance metrics and give provider and payer staff in a broad range of functional roles direct access to data at the network, provider, member and claim level, which they can filter and analyze to drive improved decision making.

GHC-SCW, a non-profit managed healthcare organization with 68,000 health plan members, selected McKesson Analytics Advisor for its ability to identify specific opportunities where sometimes minor changes — for example, a switch to a generic drug — can have major impact. In turn, McKesson Analytics Advisor will give GHC-SCW the data and tools it needs to credibly communicate the value that it provides to its employer-group customer base and prospects.

“Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin continues to partner with McKesson to sustain our efforts on healthcare quality and to support our patient outreach efforts through tools such as McKesson Analytics Advisor,” said Galen Metz, chief information officer, GHC-SCW. “Our quality efforts were recognized by NCQA in our #7 national commercial health plan ranking.”

GHC-SCW and GHC-Eau Claire have both signed three-year contracts for McKesson Analytics Advisor.
