Take two apps … and text me in the morning

July 2, 2012
Mobile app boutique Happtique has launched a first-of-its-kind, trial program that enables doctors to prescribe mobile health apps as part of a recovery, treatment or wellness plan. The overarching goal is to provide physician-to-patient mobile technologies and services that will improve compliance and health outcomes.

The trial service, called mRx, has recruited physician prescribers specializing in the treatment of heart disease, diabetes and musculoskeletal conditions, as well as physical therapists and trainers. Participating prescribers have received training and access to a subset of specialty-specific apps, allowing them to integrate appropriate programs into their patients’ treatment programs. Happtique is tracking both prescribing processes and patient mRx downloads throughout the summer to gauge overall program effectiveness, garner provider input and help to construct an appropriate future app catalog.
