Accenture selected to build and implement national EHR in Norway

Oct. 11, 2012

OSLO; Oct. 11, 2012 – The Norwegian Directorate of Health has awarded Accenture (NYSE:ACN) a five-year contract to build and implement Norway’s electronic health record (EHR) system. The new system will provide a consolidated record system for Norway’s medical professionals and five million citizens.

“We believe Norway’s efforts will enable meaningful advances to their healthcare system by increasing the effectiveness of patient care,” said Tonje Sanderg, who leads Accenture’s Health & Public Service business in Norway. “Using the Norway EHR system, medical professionals will have access to a single patient record that consolidates all medical history across the health continuum.”

Accenture and the Norwegian Directorate of Health will implement a single, national EHR system for enabling medical professionals to view patient medical records from all parts of Norway’s healthcare system. This includes demographic information, clinical history, physician interactions, diagnostic assessments, medications, procedures and patient interaction summaries.

At the same time, the EHR system will allow Norwegian citizens to securely access and maintain their own medical records in near real-time.

The Norwegian Directorate of Health is responsible for enabling healthcare services and public health policy for Norway’s five million citizens. The Directorate, as part of the Norway Ministry of Health, leads the development and implementation of care services, disease surveillance, public health policy and medical research.
