CMS awards General Dynamics $100 million contract

Oct. 23, 2012

October 23, FAIRFAX, Va. – General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), has been awarded a task order by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to support its Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) program.

This task order was awarded under the CMS Enterprise System Development contract and has a value of $99.9 million over five years, if all options are exercised.

The MSP program protects Medicare program integrity by ensuring CMS can identify the appropriate primary payer and process secondary payments accordingly. General Dynamics will provide a variety of information technology (IT) services for the MSP program, including hosting, software development and production operations. The company will also maintain, enhance and consolidate more than 20 applications within the MSP program.

“Ensuring claims are paid correctly is a vital element in keeping the Medicare system functioning smoothly,” said Marcus Collier, senior vice president of General Dynamics Information Technology’s Health and Civilian Solutions division. “We look forward to helping CMS continually improve its system for managing payments and its overall customer experience.” General Dynamics has delivered a range of health IT support to CMS for more than 30 years, including for the Health Care Quality Improvement System, the Chronic Condition Warehouse, the Retiree Drug Subsidy program, the Drug Data Processing System and the Payment Reconciliation System.
