Federally qualified health center turns to McKesson

Jan. 14, 2013

ATLANTA — January 9, 2013 — Family Health Care Clinic, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) based in Pearl, Mississippi, has selected McKesson Revenue Management Solutions (RMS) to provide a full range of medical billing and accounts receivable management services. McKesson’s experience with the complex billing and compliance requirements associated with FQHCs was instrumental in the clinic’s decision to partner with RMS.

Family Health Care is a major safety net provider operating a network of 23 primary care facilities and 17 school-based clinics throughout Mississippi and northwest Alabama. With 44 providers, the clinic offers a full range of primary care services, in addition to pediatric, OB/GYN, dental, nutrition and women’s health care services.

The FQHC program is administered by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). It channels state and federal dollars to healthcare entities that provide a disproportionate share of services to Medicaid patients and the uninsured.  Family Health Care offers medical and dental services to all citizens in the areas served, regardless of an individual’s ability to pay. Discounts are available, based on a sliding scale that takes into account the patient’s annual income and family size.

Margaret A. Gray, DPA, President and CEO of Family Health, said that McKesson’s competitive pricing and 21 years of experience including the ability to process FQHC claims, along with a recommendation from a Mississippi provider, were key reasons behind the selection of RMS.
“With McKesson on board, we have great confidence that our billing and accounts receivable management will be in expert hands,” said Clinton Mayes, vice president and chief operating officer of Family Health. “This partnership will allow us to concentrate our energy on our mission of providing the highest level of care to our constituents in Mississippi and Alabama, while continuing to look for opportunities to expand our services geographically.”

McKesson’s partnerships with Family Health and other progressive physician groups across the country support the company’s Better Health 2020 strategy. The strategy is designed to help organizations address health reform issues and provide the capabilities needed to reduce costs, improve financial performance and successfully manage complex payment models.
Along with billing and compliance assistance, RMS also will provide ongoing documentation and coding education to Family Health’s physicians, as well as a wide range of customized reporting tools for the clinic’s financial management.

“Federally Qualified Health Centers like Family Health are a key link in the healthcare system,” said Pat Leonard, senior vice president and general manager, McKesson RMS.  “We look forward to helping them optimize their financial performance and compliance capabilities, so that they’ll be able to continue to expand and strengthen their services.”

McKesson RMS is a leading provider of medical billing and practice management services, with a team of more than 4,000 experienced revenue cycle professionals. The services are uniquely designed to help practices improve efficiency and grow revenues while staying current with the latest regulatory requirements.
