The exhibition will feature the usual slate of guests and keynote speakers, education sessions, networking opportunities and vendor booths. Here are some other happenings to be aware of:
Interoperability Showcase, La Nouvelle Ballroom, Level 2
The HIMSS Interoperability Showcase is an interactive demonstration of live clinical information systems that will allow you to assume the role of the patient and watch your personal health record move across multiple points of care. Health IT vendors come together to demonstrate standards-based interoperability and their dedication to making health information exchange happen for providers around the world by using Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) profiles in their technology solutions. Clinical-use case stories span multiple patient care settings, including acute care, ambulatory and inpatient settings.
The Showcase hosts 30-minute education sessions on interoperability provided by industry leaders. Take advantage of these sessions to give your organization the edge when planning to acquire clinical information systems that will allow seamless integration.
New this year, HIMSS Interoperability Showcase education sessions offer continuing education units toward CPHIMS certification.
The Showcase hosts special feature tours provided by organizations that have a success story to share or an initiative that may help your organization with integration challenges. Learn how to build a successful health information exchange from government agencies and large healthcare organizations.
Knowledge Centers
The Knowledge Centers, located on the show floor, are designed to bring a one-stop experience to the HIMSS13 attendees based around the three hot topics listed below. The Knowledge Centers will bring to one area HIMSS peer-reviewed education sessions, exhibitor case-study presentations, opportunities to meet the experts, exhibition booths, HIMSS resources and networking.
The three knowledge centers are:
Mobile Health – Booth #8653: Advances in and access to mobile and wireless technologies provide unprecedented opportunities to change patient engagement and the delivery of healthcare globally. Topic focus includes discussions on critical milestones that are needed to take mobile technologies from present-use cases, technical specifications and pilot demonstrations to full adoption, deployment and convergence.
Clinical & Business Analytics/Intelligence – Booth #869: Topics in this category feature provider- or payer-focused best practices, lessons learned and other tools and resources to help health organizations.
ICD-10 – Booth #4581: Exhibitors will display products and services that enable end users, other vendors and payers to prepare for and navigate the transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10. Education sessions focus on tutorials around timeline, process, roles and responsibilities, avoiding pitfalls, assessments and training.
Walk & Learns – 12:45 p.m.-2:40 p.m., March 5, 2013
As always, the HIMSS13 exhibit floor will be packed with lots of products and solutions to experience. But, it can often take considerable time and navigational skills to get to your selected suppliers.
To help maximize your exhibit hall experience, try a Walk & Learn. New this year, these free, small-group, guided tours for providers allow access to top suppliers at a time when the exhibit area is closed to everyone else.
Experience comfortable, uncrowded access to four vendors showcasing products; avoid hard-sell pitches by being part of limited-audience presentations; and save time and gain focus with prearranged, agreed-upon questions.
Register to hear up to four presentations in one of three healthcare categories: Improving Access – Patient Portal; Improving Care – Clinical Decision Support; or Reducing Cost – Revenue Cycle Management. Meet with impartial moderators for an overview and to review questions. Split into small groups. Walk with your guide to the first of four, 15-minute presentations. When your group has “walked and learned” all four presentations in your category, return to the meeting room.
Registration is free, but space is limited.
The Intelligent Hospital Pavilion – Booth #8711
The Intelligent Hospital Pavilion will provide a practical overview of how diverse technologies, including medical devices and systems, clinical applications, auto-ID, RFID, RTLS, sensors and wireless technologies, along with tablets and smart mobile devices, are seamlessly integrated to enhance patient care, optimize workflow and manage healthcare resources. The pavilion will showcase numerous unique-use cases and solutions simulating typical scenarios within the OR, ICU, ER, ambulance and pharmacy. This year, the IH Pavilion will include a dynamic Virtual Intelligent Hospital environment. HMT
