Hyland Software expands its partnership with Nuance Communications

March 1, 2013

CLEVELAND – Feb. 26, 2013 – To accelerate processing of patient records coming from outside providers and to further extend the impact of OnBase to help achieve the Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Stage 7 of the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model,  Hyland Software announced the validated integration between Hyland’s OnBase enterprise content management (ECM) and Nuance Communications’ eCopy ShareScan scanning and workflow solutions.

OnBase is used as the primary document and electronic clinical capture technology in over half of all health systems which have achieved HIMSS Stage 7.  The validated OnBase integration to Nuance’s eCopy ShareScan provides additional capture ports by enabling Multi-Function Peripheral devices (MFP’s) to leverage OnBase workflow and clinical context management capabilities, even in areas where clinical and non-clinical information is comingled or clinical capture is infrequent.

The OnBase Connector utilized by eCopy ShareScan is designed to empower modern Multi-Function Peripheral Devices at or near the point of care to perform scanning and initial indexing of documents for subsequent verification within centralized HIM workflows.   By sending documents from these point of care MFP stations directly into the OnBase ECM solution, HIM departments are able to access documents faster and incorporate them into their high-volume OnBase scanning and content management workflows.

“Healthcare facilities often have multiple imaging stations and disparate devices spread out across the enterprise,” said Michael Rich, senior vice president and general manager, Nuance Document Imaging. Mr. Rich continued, “Frequently, patient information is entered from different locations, and through a variety of capture processes.  The validated integration between eCopy ShareScan and OnBase serves to eliminate confusion, reduce delays and eliminates issues such as missing or delayed access to patient information.”

Jeff Sorenson, Global Director of Healthcare Sales and Solutions, said “Achieving HIMSS Stage 7 of the Electronic Medical Record Adoption ModelSM requires highly evolved and time-sensitive document scanning and HIM workflows, which can only be achieved via a world-class ECM solution such as OnBase.  The partnership with Nuance provides seamless integration between OnBase and Nuance’s highly-prevalent scanning solution.”  Jeff added, “There is great potential to expand our relationship further.  For example, Hyland Software has recently released OnBase integrations with several leading ICD-10 coding solutions which leverage the Nuance Natural Language Processing engine.”
