Del Mar, CA- April 11, 2013 – Humetrix, the originator of mobile patient-controlled health information exchange, will demonstrate its award-winning iBlueButton suite of mobile apps at one of healthcare's premier events – TEDMED 2013 – in Washington, DC April 16-19. This year's event, held at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, will debut “The Hive” as a melting pot of entrepreneurial, innovative companies that are raising the bar for quality in healthcare.
“We are thrilled to have been selected to join a group of thought leaders that are literally rethinking healthcare,” said Bettina Experton, M.D., M.P.H., President and CEO of Humetrix and an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine. “For us, being part of 'The Hive' at TEDMED 2013 is both a great honor and further evidence that a paradigm shift is happening in healthcare where patients are no longer passive healthcare recipients but rather direct agents of change in control of the information flow required in a complex health care environment and playing a critical role in care decisions for more cost-effective healthcare.”
The novel iBlueButton platform of mobile-to-mobile health information exchange apps empower millions of consumers to securely access and transmit their medical records to physicians at the point of care, device-to-device, improving the safety and efficacy of care. Studies show that the lack of up-to-date patient health information is a key contributor to medical errors that injure 1.5 million Americans annually, as well as to the redundant tests and other unnecessary procedures that waste billions of dollars each year.
The iBlueButton app won the 2012 federal government's Blue Button Mash-Up Industry Innovation Challenge, to access and share with providers their online health records through the Federal Blue Button initiative. These include today all Medicare beneficiaries, Veterans, active-duty military and their families, Aetna plan enrollees, patients using RelayHealth, and more to come.
The iBlueButton consumer and physician apps are available on iTunes for iPhone and iPad. The iBlueButton Android App for consumers is available on the Google Play store.
The Hive, TEDMED's newest platform, will be online at TEDMED.com and live at the South Plaza of the Kennedy Center, creating immersive and informal social environments dedicated to exploring transformative innovations and inspiring entrepreneurs in health and medicine.
