Pennsylvania radiology practice chooses McKesson for revenue management services

May 9, 2013

ATLANTA – May 8, 2013 — J.M. Winston Radiology Associates, Inc.,  a 6-physician radiology practice based in Reading, Pa., has partnered with McKesson Revenue Management Solutions (RMS) to help improve cash flow and bolster regulatory compliance. Winston Radiology is affiliated with St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading and offers a full range of imaging services. The group is responsible for approximately 140,000 procedures annually.

McKesson will provide the group with revenue cycle management, including coding, documentation education, claims processing, denial management, A/R management, customer service, collections, compliance oversight, reporting and credentialing.

Rakesh Barak, MD, president, said Winston chose RMS because of its experience in radiology billing and its track record for improving radiology financial performance nationwide. “Over the past year or so, we experienced a decline in revenue despite a steady procedure count, so we knew we needed to take a hard look at our revenue cycle,” Barak said. “With McKesson’s assistance, we’ve been able to identify significant issues in our billing process and as a result, we’re confident we’ll be able to strengthen and stabilize our revenue stream going forward.”

Barak said another important element in the decision to partner with McKesson was the presence of a radiology processing center in nearby Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The Lancaster center is one of 22 centers of excellence McKesson operates to handle radiology billing.

Pat Leonard, president, RMS, said the regional centers allow the company to maintain close contact with clients while also monitoring market-specific payer issues.

“We’re extremely pleased that J.M. Winston Radiology Associates is the latest Pennsylvania-based practice to choose McKesson for revenue cycle services,” Leonard said. “We look forward to helping them thrive despite the many challenges that radiology practices face today.”

Like McKesson clients  across all specialties, Leonard said, J.M. Winston will benefit from the company’s Better Health 2020 strategy, a comprehensive initiative designed to provide practices with the capabilities needed to reduce costs, improve financial performance and successfully manage complex payment models.
