CHRISTUS Health chooses McKesson for comprehensive document management

June 13, 2013

ATLANTA, June 13, 2013 – CHRISTUS Health, a major not-for-profit Catholic health system, has selected McKesson’s suite of documentation management solutions to manage clinical, demographic, billing and operational documents across 26 hospitals in seven states. The solutions will integrate with CHRISTUS’ existing health information system (HIS) to allow for seamless, single-platform document access for clinicians, revenue cycle staff, health information management staff, administrators and others. The McKesson offering also contains a wide range of tools that automate key business practices to help expedite collections and improve overall workflow.

“We turned to McKesson because we needed a document management solution that could fully integrate with our existing HIS for ease of clinician use,” said Randy Osteen, CHRISTUS’ associate chief information officer, vice president, Information Management Strategy and Applications. “We also wanted to capture the significant operational and cost benefits that come with a single-platform approach. Finally, we were looking for built-in automation tools to streamline a wide range of business practices throughout our organization. On all three counts, McKesson proved to be the best option.”

CHRISTUS will deploy McKesson’s electronic document and content management systems, including Horizon Patient Folder, Horizon Business Folder and Horizon Enterprise Content Manager. These solutions not only will enable the health system to automate medical records and its business office processes, but also electronically capture, store and manage patient information as well as other enterprise documentation, including purchasing, and human resources information. To further increase efficiency and reduce costs across the organization, CHRISTUS will implement McKesson’s forms redesign and point of access scanning and e-signature solutions.

CHRISTUS will also benefit from McKesson’s Horizon Patient Folder documented Best Practices, which include standardized workflows and processes developed from the collective experiences of existing McKesson customers. For new customers, the best practices help minimize time-to-value and simplify decision-making during implementation.

“The ability to access accurate information in a timely manner is increasingly essential to both clinical quality and financial health,” said Kevan Torgerson, president, Enterprise Medical Imaging & Ancillary Solutions, McKesson Technology Solutions. “McKesson is committed to providing truly comprehensive, end-to-end document management solutions for large, integrated delivery networks like CHRISTUS Health. We look forward to partnering with them to capture the multitude of benefits that effective documentation management and automation can provide.”
