Mississippi establishes a Medicaid EHR database

On January 13, 2014, Mississippi State Representative Omeria Scott filedHouse Bill 206 which provides “for a database of electronic medical records of Medicaid recipients, with access by Medicaid providers.” The measure also provides for the maintenance and operation of the database, the right to obtain Medicaid patient’s medical records for inclusion, and provides that the purpose of the database is to allow health care providers to be able to coordinate services to Medicaid recipients with those provided by other health care providers in a manner to optimize the quality, efficiency and safety of the health care received by Medicaid recipients. The measure awaits further consideration in the House Medicaid: Appropriations Committee.
