athenahealth partners with University of Toledo Medical Center for inpatient EHR development

Jan. 28, 2016

athenahealth, a provider of cloud-based services and mobile applications for medical groups and health systems, announced that it will expand its relationship with the University of Toledo to develop athenahealth’s electronic health record with the University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC) for providers who cross ambulatory and hospital care settings.  The University of Toledo Physician Group has been an athenahealth client since 2014.

Development at UTMC will focus heavily on creating a seamless physician and nurse user experience for the academic medical center.  Research will focus on acute-care workflows to identify areas for operational improvement and then design and build service capabilities to support these workflows.

“athenahealth and the University of Toledo both believe that health care delivery must transform to improve value for patients while providing a first-class provider experience,” says Jonathan Bush, CEO, athenahealth.  “athenahealth is excited to extend our service relationship with the University of Toledo into the realm of development, and work together to build a disruptive alternative to legacy health IT solutions that supports health care providers along the entire continuum of care.”

athenahealth announced the extension of its services into the acute care setting in early 2015 with the acquisitions of RazorInsights, LLC and webOMR.  athenahealth will convert the technology acquired in these transactions into a comprehensive, cloud-based service within athenaNet for hospitals of all sizes and complexities. The new service, athenaClinicals for Hospitals & Health Systems, will be an extension of the company’s existing EHR, athenaClinicals, ranked Best in KLAS for ambulatory care.

“Working with athenahealth to develop athenaClinicals for Hospitals & Health Systems is an excellent opportunity to position our providers already using athenaNet to impact transitions of care across UTMC’s ecosystem.  We are embracing this opportunity to fully implement the cloud across our inpatient and outpatient environments,” says David Morlock, CEO, University of Toledo Medical Center.
