Learn how to design sustainable HIE models for rural health networks at HIMSS16

Feb. 8, 2016

Liaison Technologies announced that Gary Palgon, Vice President of Healthcare and Life Sciences Solutions at Liaison, and Dominic H. Mack, M.D., Executive Director of the Georgia Health Information Technology Extension Center (GA-HITEC), will Co-Present at HIMSS16 on how to build sustainable, economical health information networks for rural practices and hospitals.

Palgon and Mack will share GA-HITEC’s success in recently implementing the Georgia Health Connect Health Information Exchange (HIE), which connects rural providers and healthcare centers. They will showcase how GA-HITEC’s approach, which leverages Liaison’s ALLOY Health™ Platform for integration and data management, has effectively lowered the cost of care, provided efficient access to unified patient records, reduced service duplication and helped providers make more informed clinical decisions to improve patient outcomes.

During the session, “Sustainable HIE Models for Practices and Rural Hospitals,” set for 4 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, attendees will come away with insight on how to overcome the unique challenges faced by small, independent and rural practices and hospitals in designing an HIE, including: limited budget and IT resources, geographic dispersion and building business partnerships among care organizations.

“Rural areas have perhaps the most to gain from an HIE because of the geographic disparity and tendency for smaller practices to operate in silos. But, they’re also slower to implement because of their smaller size and typically small budgets,” Mack says. “Many believe an advanced HIE system is out of their reach, but in this session, we’ll demonstrate how cloud-based platforms offer a lower upfront investment and ease of use that encourages adoption and fosters sustainability, and helps rural providers make better clinical and business decisions for measurable ROI.”

Liaison representatives will also be on hand at booth 11610 throughout HIMSS16, Feb. 29-March 4 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas, to offer one-on-one demonstrations of Liaison’s ALLOY Health Platform. ALLOY is the world’s first Data Platform as a Service (dPaaS) solution. It provides cloud-based integration and data management to help healthcare organizations integrate, manage, harmonize and share data within industry compliance parameters, allowing them to meet “Triple Aim” goals of delivering a better patient experience, improving population health and reducing the per-capita cost of healthcare. This includes enabling providers to overcome complex interoperability challenges in building HIEs and integrating with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
