The Infinitt PACS from Infinitt North America, Phillipsburg, N.J., has been named the Category Leader for community hospital PACS for the second consecutive year in the “2010 Top 20 Best in KLAS Awards: Software & Professional Services” report.

The system received an overall score of 91.6 percent, with 100 percent of respondents indicating they would buy the system again. David Smarro, president of Infinitt North America, says their Web-based PACS, with RIS/PACS/Cardiology PACS, Mammo PACS, and 3D reconstruction residing on a single database, provides more value for the customer's dollar and requires less IT support.

“Our system is extremely scalable and can serve a small, standalone imaging center or a multi-site hospital network,” Smarro says. The single-database architecture eliminates internal interfaces and potential points of failure that can come with them, he adds. Users can access all applications with a single logon and a single desktop. Embedded digital dictation, transcription and voice recognition capabilities, and advanced hanging protocols further personalize the user experience.

The company offers full-featured PACS modules for cardiology, mammography, orthopedics, radiation oncology, and dental imaging, with more expected in 2011. “Once the base system is in, the customer can add extra applications any time,” Smarro says. “The value is in the adaptability of the product.”

Addressing Community Market Needs

Strapped by tight funding and sparse IT staffing, community hospitals need a flexible PACS that can be used across multiple work environments and specialties. Customer service has also become a key differentiator in this market sector, Smarro adds.

“We can provide turnkey PACS or tailor the system to the specific needs of the customer, making the best use of legacy hardware,” he says. “We can provide all or part of a RIS, we can customize interfaces and user preferences, and will help set up a virtualized IT environment. With our flexible service component, we can provide the people to maintain the system full time, part time, or a few hours a week-whatever the customer needs.”

Infinitt has a world-class R&D team and experience with more than 2,000 installed sites across the globe. “We evaluate recent customer requests every two weeks,” Smarro says, “to see what else we can add.”
