Madison, Wis.-based Symphony Corporation has joined forces with Ann Arbor, Mich.-headquartered CareEvolution, Inc. to offer technology and service solutions targeted to regional health information organization developers.

The partnership will support linking vital patient information across multiple sites of care and enable the RHIO's member entities to share clinical information located in their internal, heterogeneous and underlying EMR systems. The eventual goal is the seamless exchange of patient information.

Symphony looks to CareEvolution's service-oriented architecture to improve patient safety and reduce operating costs for patients, providers and payers.

“This strategic relationship positions both Symphony and CareEvolution to build on each other's strengths,” says Ravi Kalla, president and CEO, Symphony Corporation.

Taking on Risk

Pennsauken, N.J.-headquartered business and technology solutions provider RCM Technologies, Inc. is launching its Enterprise IT Risk Management consulting practice and is partnering with K. K. Birla group of India.

Together, RCM and ISG Novasoft (a company within Birla) will sell and implement a common compliance platform.

“…we are bringing enterprise IT risk management to market as a formal practice,” says John Vadnais, RCM vice president. “Our staff is trained in IT risk management and is able to perform analysis, documentation review and testing to identify and categorize risks that may impact Sarbanes-Oxley compliance as well as day-to-day IT operations.”

Experior Expands

Fort Wayne, Ind.-based healthcare systems developer, Experior Corporation, has partnered with Louisville, Ky.-based ZirMed for revenue cycle management services.

ZirMed markets itself as an alternative to traditional healthcare clearinghouses, providing electronic remittance, merchant processing, print services, and real-time eligibility and claims management. The company provides a suite of Web-based technology products that address administrative and financial healthcare challenges.

The two companies have previously worked together.

“For several years, we had an informal working relationship with ZirMed on behalf of our mutual clients,” says Rex Whitten, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Experior.

Marketing and Managing Medicare

Birmingham, Ala.-based DST Health Solutions will soon be reselling a product from Continuum Performance Systems, Inc. (Madison, Conn.)

Continuum's software, MarketProminence, is designed to minimize the administration complexity of government healthcare programs, including Medicare Advantage and Part D. Under the agreement, in addition to reselling MarketProminence, DST Health Solutions would also provide business implementation, configuration and support services.

“DST Health Solutions is pleased to augment the services and technology available to our existing and new customers, primarily in key markets like Medicare,” says Steve Sabino, DST Health Solutions president.

Spheris Gets Vianeta

Medical transcription technology and services company, Spheris of Franklin, Tenn., has completed the acquisition of Milpitas, Calif.-based Vianeta Communications. Vianeta is a developer and supplier of clinical documentation technology for hospitals, health systems and group practices. The acquisition expands Spheris' ability to deploy technology and service solutions for healthcare providers, according to the company.

“Customers are telling us they want an integrated technology and service solution that is flexible enough to be combined and deployed effectively across their health information management and radiology IT systems,” says Steven Simpson, Spheris president and CEO. “The acquisition of Vianeta significantly expands Spheris' technological capabilities, including speech recognition and XML data tagging for use with electronic health records…”
