One-on-One With Mercy Medical Center CIO Jeff Cash

This past June, Iowa was hit some of the worst flooding in the state's history, and right in the thick of it was the 370-bed Mercy Medical Center (Cedar Rapids). More than 4,000 homes in the area had to be evacuated, and the hospital was forced to move 176 patients to nearby facilities. However, despite the fact that water levels rose so high that sandbags had to be piled up outside the doors, physicians were never left in the dark, as the facility's network, EMR and communication systems stayed up during the entire ordeal. For Jeff Cash, Mercy's vice president and CIO, it was the ultimate test for his staff's preparedness. http://www.healthcare-informatics.com/jeff_cash

One-on-One With University Hospitals CIO Mary Alice Annecharico, R.N.

This summer, Mary Alice Annecharico, R.N., became senior vice president and CIO at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, a network that includes six owned and four managed hospitals and 1,662 owned-hospital beds. Healthcare Informatics Contributing Editor Mark Hagland had the chance to interview this CIO, who sums up her leadership philosophy by saying, “I am a CIO who is a nurse. I will continue to keep my credentials and identity.”
