James F. Burgess was named general manager of 3M Health Information Systems, Salt Lake City, replacing Brian Hewitt who was reassigned within the 3M corporation. Burgess joined 3M from VHA, Inc., Irving, Texas, where he was vice president and general manager in charge of information systems.
Computer outsourcing firm, Systems Management Specialists, Santa Ana, Calif., named Dean Campbell,former senior executive and CIO of Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles, as vice president in charge of its healthcare practice. Campbell has been involved in healthcare IT for 27 years, and is a past chairman of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) planning committee.
The Clinical Laboratory Management Association (CLMA) announced George Linial as its new executive vice president. Linial, who was most recently on staff with the American College of Healthcare Executives, will be responsible for developing educational programs and promoting CLMA’s position on healthcare policy issues.
Healthcare IS company Compucare, Reston, Va., promoted Nancy Nelson from senior vice president of product marketing to chief operating officer, as a replacement for departing president Ron Bernier. She will be responsible for day to day company operations including product marketing, professional services and human resources. Nelson has been with Compucare for 14 years.
The Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) announced Lori J. Mitchell as national voluntary chairman. Mitchell is currently CFO at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. With a career in healthcare administration, she has held various executive positions including the top financial post at PacifiCare of Washington and PacifiCare of Oregon. She has been a member of HFMA since 1976 and has held the offices of national chairman-elect, treasurer and secretary.
