Ex UPMC CIO Drawbaugh to lead Steadman Clinic

Dan Drawbaugh, the former chief information officer and executive vice president at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) health system, has been named CEO of the Steadman Clinic and the Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Colorado.

Dan Drawbaugh, the former chief information officer and executive vice president at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) health system, has been named CEO of the Steadman Clinic and the Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Colorado.

The Steadman Clinic is an orthopaedic clinic with facilities in Vail, Frisco, and Edwards Colo., specializing in sports medicine. The nonprofit Steadman Philippon Research Institute (SPRI) is dedicated to keeping people of all ages physically active through orthopaedic research and education in arthritis, healing, rehabilitation, and injury prevention.

"We've embarked upon an ambitious strategic growth plan and Dan is uniquely qualified to lead the next phase of our development," said Marc Philippon, M.D., managing partner of the Steadman Clinic and co-chairman of SPRI, in a prepared statement. "He's a visionary leader who knows how to build systems and generate growth.”

Drawbaugh left the 20-plus hospital UPMC in August 2014 after 18 years as CIO and 30 years with the organization overall. During his tenure as CIO, he was at the forefront of helping to facilitate the organization’s bold IT and data strategy, including its groundbreaking co-development ventures with leading IT vendor companies. He also has served on a number of boards including Oracle Advisory Board, IBM Advisory Board, IBM Health Care & Life Systems and Verizon Wireless. He earned a bachelor's degree in biomedical and electrical engineering technology from Temple University and an MBA from Duquesne University.

Ed McCallister, formerly senior vice president, enterprise applications & business services, Information Services Division, replaced Drawbaugh as UPMC’s CIO.
