Ann Arbor, Mich.-based Health Level Seven (HL7)’s Version 2.5 messaging standard has been endorsed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO, Switzerland).

According to HL7, Version 2.5 enables interoperability between EHR, practice management, laboratory, dietary, pharmacy and billing systems, and facilitates communication among applications and data architectures operating in diverse-system environments.

The new standard is designed to help accelerate the use of electronic clinical information worldwide to improve patient care and reduce redundancies, it says.
