athenahealth Inc. has developed and launched, through a partnership with health benefits company Humana (Louisville, Ky.), an integrated all-payer platform designed to enable its national client base to perform real time adjudication (RTA) of medical claims at the point-of-service.

According to athenahealth (Watertown, Mass.), a provider of Internet-based business services for physician practices, the platform can be used for any payer that links to the athenaNet system, athenahealth's centrally-hosted practice management and EMR service platform.

athenahealth's contends its RTA functionality enables physicians and their staff to submit a claim at the time of service, receive a fully adjudicated claim response from the payer and collect the appropriate payment for services that qualify for real-time claim adjudication before the patient leaves the office.
