Initiated by the Washington, D.C.-based Leapfrog Group and the Partnership for Value-driven Health Care, two new guides are being released that give Medicaid agencies and state employee healthcare purchasers specific guidance on how to facilitate value-driven healthcare purchasing.
The new guides are titled: "Value-Driven Health Care: A Guide for State Employee Benefits Purchasers" and "Value-Driven Health Care: A Guide for State Medicaid Agencies" and provides step-by-step instructions on how to implement value-based purchasing practices. The first guide, called "The Purchaser Guide to Value-driven Health Care," was issued last February.
The development of the three guides was designed to help purchasers identify which initiatives need to be undertaken in order to meet of the four identified cornerstones of value-driven healthcare — utilizing health information technology; measuring and publishing quality information; measuring and publishing price information; and, creating positive incentives for high quality, efficient healthcare.
