San Diego-based IntelliDOT Corporation is collaborating with Cisco (San Jose, Calif.) to develop a mobile solution for clinical asset location in hospitals.

The wireless, handheld IntelliDOT CAREt system barcode point-of-care solution will integrate with Cisco Context Aware Mobility via an open API that runs on the new Cisco 3300 Series Mobility Services Engine.

According to the companies, the combined solution is designed to help clinicians quickly locate critical equipment and resources, including IV infusion pumps, portable vital signs monitoring equipment, handheld electronic thermometers, wheelchairs, charts and medical personnel.

The IntelliDOT module will operate over a hospital’s existing 802.11 WLAN, and communicate with the Cisco Mobility Services Engine, which will gather resource position data from access points on the WLAN and make it available for display on the IntelliDOT handheld unit via the Cisco API.
