Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa, is adding Carestream Health, Inc.’s (Rochester, N.Y.) Enterprise Information Management licenses and two IBM XIV Storage Systems as part of an expansion of its storage area network to support digital mammography, cardiac catheterization studies and vascular ultrasound images.

The hospital also used EIM software to migrate data from its previous generation PACS to its central storage archive, says the company. The software facilitates disaster recovery by simultaneously storing data at both the main center and a secondary data center, it touts.

Mercy, a 917-bed not-for-profit Catholic hospital situated on three campuses, is Des Moines’ longest continually operating hospital and one of the largest employers in the state, with more than 6,900 employees and a medical staff of 900 physicians and allied health professionals.
