The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) plans to collaborate with the Washington, D.C.-based CAQH Committee on Operating Rules for Information Exchange (CORE) initiative to facilitate the electronic verification of patient insurance coverage.
CORE is working to build consensus on a set of operating rules that seek to:
1. Enhance interoperability between providers and payers.
2. Streamline eligibility and benefits data transactions.
3. Reduce the amount of time and resources providers spend on administrative functions.
CORE's first set of rules was finalized in September 2006. The committee is now in Phase II of rules development, which are expected to be announced at the end of 2007.
