Butler Health System (BHS, Butler, Pa.), a regional network of healthcare delivery services, has selected Allscripts to provide Butler Memorial Hospital with an emergency department information system (EDIS), as well as an electronic health record (EHR) for its physician practices.

According to Allscripts, EDIS streamlines processes for the emergency department, including tracking, triage, nurse and physician charting, disposition and reporting. Connectivity to the EHR means that emergency department physicians will have access to many patients' medical histories and medication lists. In addition, the solution will exchange information with BHS's existing Meditech (Westwood, Mass.) inpatient information system.

The EHR solution is designed to enable physicians to access patient information, prescribe and refill medications, order and review tests, and document patient care, says the Chicago-based provider of clinical software.
